Lesson to be learnt

posted by tristan @ 4/29/2005 09:54:00 PM

Its not an easy task to become a good teacher, someone whose students will look up to you, and the most crucial part "RESPECT". Sounds like Aretha Franklin 80s hit huh! I went back to both the Primary5 and Primary 3 classes today.

The moment i stepped into the class, they were like "Hello, Mr Fu, Hello Mr Fu". Anyway, the p3 class was the worst to handle for the day, as there's too many hiccups in between. I had 4 periods with them, had some fun going through the science worksheet, and explaing the details.

However, lessons would not be too hard to handle if the periods were allocated before recess or after school. You can just grab hold of this opportunity to say "No recess for you all" or "Stay back after school". Well.....

"No recess for you" = Starvation and death. hahahaha!

"Stay back after school" = which kid doesn't want to go home? Right?

The above method was successfully coupled with the highly commendable method which my secondary school teacher Miss Soh used on my class - The 5 strokes silence. Very useful indeed.

The mathematics period was the worst. Because 2 students were fighting, 1 crying out loud for being bullied. The other (the kid whom i met at the bus stop yesterday - read previous entry), declaring a war with me, by sitting on the floor, not moving a single inch of his ass, no matter how nicely i talked to him. My patient was kinda limited and I ended up yelling at him. He moved yet relunctantly back onto his chair. The whole class just gets on my nerve and I nearly slipped "SHUT UP"/"Keep your mouth shut" out from my mouth. Bearing in mind these words are forbidden.

There's still a lot to learn. I hope to be more organise, though some of my friends always said how well organised I am. I had silently agreed (sounds cocky) but until I stepped into this part-time job, I realised, "NO I AM NOT". I had a hard time ensuring that everyone submit their homework. Coz later when I started counting in the staff room, I realised there were so many students who didn't handed up their work. Failure! I'm still thinking of a better method to ensure everyone would submit on time.

If ever comes a day when teaching becomes a career for me, I wish to be an amiable teacher, yet earning full respect, in the sense that when its time for work, they work, and when its time to play, i'll play with them. You know, its just so hard to become the PERFECT teacher in every students dream. Maybe it can be acheived if I work in a student's perspective?? =(

Thats all for today. Tiring yet valuable and precious key lessons that I've learnt to know more about myself. Good night.

The deadly battle: Not for the faint hearted.

posted by tristan @ 4/28/2005 06:30:00 PM

bruise. punched. kicked. Almost like a gruesome battle with children. Today's relief teaching was an eye-opener and it kinda makes me wanna say "I RESPECT" teachers. This profession is really remarkable. or I should put it this way - I take my hat off them.

Woke up at 6a.m. Mom made me breakfast, tuna sandwich and asked if I had a good rest last night. Mom knows me well. I'm often tense up before the first day of regardless what activities I have. Rushed off at 7a.m. All ready, somehow a little more confident.

7:25. On the dot. Report to the GO to sign my attendance and handle all the adminstrative task.

7.30. Got my timetable for the day. Was expected to relief 4 classes but ended up relieving 3 classes.

The first primary 5 class really made my day. Greeted me "Mr Fu" before they continue their assigned tasks. My sir name sucks - sounds like "Mr FOOL". What's your say? hehehe. It was kind of awkard though. They were so well behaved for that 1 and half hour. I can hardly hear talking.

Thereafter it was followed by a primary4 class. Here, where all the nightmare began. It was music lesson, thus there isn't any tasks assigned for them. And for goodness sake, I can't be teaching them singing right?! haha! Its was kinda noisy. Initially I planned to have this ambition talk with the class. Coz' I wanna listen to all the amazing answers that kids can give. hmmm, wasn't quite well received and I started playing hangman with them. I wanted them to be involved with more educational topics yet they insisted they wanted a SINGER category for them to guess. For a minute, I was standing there, facing the sparkingly cleaned white board with an empty head. I decided to approached one of the student to ask her what singer she have in mind. Guess what? She told me "HILARY DUFF" I was blown away on the spot. I thought this kind of singer would be too hard for them, yet at a mere age of 10, they knew who the dumb blonde "HILARY DUFF" was. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE KIDS THESE DAYS! It was fun interacting with them.

Breaktime. I went to the staff room and started marking the papers. Now I truly understand why our teachers say "Don't grumble so much" You do 1 piece of worksheet, I have to mark 40 of them." I took 2.5 hrs to mark a stack of MCQ with 30 questions.

Final 1 and half hour was with Primary 3 kids. The class was the worse, yet the cutest among all. You know, my screaming and shouting to them was deem as normal talking? They do listen for a minute when I blew my top. Next minute? They're back to their usual self. All hyper active and totally restless. whew~ When I gave them the mathematics assignment, it kinda tame them down a lil' but not much. They were either declaring war with their next door neighbour by pushing his/her table to another, taking crumpled paper and playing like a ball - which i confiscated and straight into the bin. God! And standing up is the best solution to shut them up. Really. It works. And when their neighbours see him/her being punished, they would quietly do their work.

Here's what you would get in a typical lower primary class:

1) Cher (as what we used to call our fella teachers) he/she beat me.

2) Cher, I want to go to the toilet can? I am very urgent (some would grab their private parts) Oh my!

3) Cher, can i go refill my water bottle?

4) Cher, she take my things without permission.

If you faced with the above scenerio, you can ignore 1 and 4. Just pay attention to 2 or 3 will do. I don't want them to pee in my class or die of thirst. lolx.

There's also a very cute side of them. Like after my day, was walking to the bus stop. 50 m away, I hear someone shouting "TEACHER TEACHER". I was liked. But deep down inside, I really feel good. Its like you get connected with the kids and they still remember you.

Student: "Cher, where you going? What bus you taking?"

Me: "To the interchange and any bus will do"

Student: "Cher, you are a relief teacher ar?"

Me: "Yes"

Me: "What bus you taking?"

Student: "21"

Me: "Where do you stay?"

Student: "Tampines Ave XX"

-- HIS BUS CAME--

Student: "Bye bye teacher" See you again next time.

AWww... how cute can it be.

I'm really exhausted. And hope you enjoy reading the long and naggy blog. But its fun thou, but there's a down side as well.

My heart is beating....

posted by tristan @ 4/27/2005 08:04:00 PM

I'm home. So freaking tired. Woke up early this morning to see the doctor. I waited for 2.5hrs before its my turn. I sat there, like a stone, for that few hours. While all the ladies sitting beside me were either busy flipping through newspapers, 8days, Cleo magazines, or gossiping about their friends behind their back. (-_-") And here I discover an amazing thing. All the patients who consult this specialist for skin problems were all bloody rich. They were carrying either a GUESS, LV, GUCCI or PRADA handbag and wallet. And obviously, they look are rich tai-tai in heels and glam up just to consult this doctor?! Me? I dressed up like a pauper. lolx. Polo tee and short. And at one moment I was shocked. A patient was charge $270 for the 15-20mins of consultation. Holy shit! I was like, "oh no, what if the doctor charge me for $300 for my Fungus infected hand?" hahahahah! Anyway, it was way lesser than I expected. Doctor warned me that I shouldn't be in touch with water too often and I should moisturise my hand at least 4 times a day. Yawn~~

Went to shop for stationery and for a haircut at Storm. I didn't know that they're currently having a promotion. $14.99 for a haircut. Obviously, there're some motive for marking at such a low price. The stylist kept insisting that I should dyed my hair for my haircut and it cost merely 50 over bucks. They can just say how ugly your hair is without colour. And you think I give a damn? I don't wanna be kicked out of the primary school after being spotted at the Assembly ground for making myself like a red hair monkey. lolx. And i can't choose the stylist I want because there were to many people waiting for a haircut. Even those secondary school boys were waiting for give it a try. I know how they feel after facing the mirror for so many years with SLOPE haircut by the barber. hiak hiak~

Gonna start relieving classes tomorrow. Very excited yet a lil' nervous. Coz' I have to interact with a class of 40 instead of usual 1-1 tuition. And surprisingly, I have to sing "MARI KITA" aka the National Athem with them tomorrow and bringing them back to their respective classes. Esther said it sounds interesting. Ya. up to a certain extend. But my cousin did warn me about the kids these days... well. I'll blog about my first day in school tomorrow! Chillx people! Wish me luck! I do need it.

Fungi Infection

posted by tristan @ 4/26/2005 04:22:00 PM

I really had a hard time sleeping for the past few days. I have been waking up multiple times in a single night. Last night was the worst, I could hardly sleep. My hands was itching terribly due to fungi infection. It had been an ON OFF thingy for the past few years. Did went to a specialist once, was getting better, but not totally cured. Coz' I didn't heed the doctors advice for wearing gloves for activities in contact with water like bathing, washing of plates etc. Guess i'm visiting a new one either tonight or tomorrow. Poor hand. Its in a terrible condition and its spreading. And the worst thought did come into my mind last night "can i just take the knife and cut my fingers off" You pretty much can't feel the way i feel. Because its so itchy, yet i can't scratch because the tiny water bubbles might burst. fuck it! I finally dozed off at 3:30 in the morning.

Anyway, was supposed to sms cien ended up msg-ing dajie. lolx. Anyway, I guess she's having a feast over there as she claimed that food there are awesome. Aww man!!

Tuition time. Byebye!

Lucky day?

posted by tristan @ 4/25/2005 08:49:00 PM

For the 2nd time of 2005, i stepped on dog's poo poo again. damn it. ewww...Was running to the bus stop to catch the bus. I took shortcut over the grass. I didn't know which dog poo poo on the grass. I shouldn't scold the dog, but the owner. I wished i could take WHITE CARROT and stuff it up the owner's ass. So nes better don't let lucky poo poo on the grass patch before I stuff it up ur ass! lolx!

Anyway, was on a bus and i began to smell a stench coming from me. Hello, I did bathe before I went out. And I saw this brownish shit at the side of the shoe. I don't know why, but this pair of Quiksilver shoe just love to eat dog's shit. Perhaps its brown, and my shoe thinks that it'll blend well. I began to clean it off using tissue paper and my bottle of water. One lucky thing is that the bus doesn't have much people. ok, enough of the dog's poo poo matters. it simply spoils my day.

Sent lian off. Haha! She's merely going away for 4 days, yet she seem so bu she de. was sleeping at 6 plus, so i wondered did she call me just now. hmmmm.. coz it was a private number.

Was applying jobs today, thus need time for them to get back to me. Anyway, might be starting to relief class this thursday and friday. kinda excited, yet a little worried. coz' too fierce, lower primary student will cry, too good to them, they'll climb over my head. Like what my cousin said "these days kids are really bright. they'll analyze and see which teacher can/cannot be bullied"

Oh, was playing Super Mario today. And I realise something. Super Mario can fly when it gain enough power. Just like how a plane gain enough thrust to take off.

Ok, gonna watch TV now. take care people.

The DKNY craze

Rawks! I love this formal wear from DKNY. Perhaps its the cardigan that really give a more "informal" touch to make it look real cool!

And I've made up my mind. I'm gonna get a job/save up to get the DKNY 195 watch which i've been eyeing for long. Have been looking at it umpteen times yet still very much in love with it.

DKNY craze.

I hate today's tuition. It sucks really. I seriously don't know what I should feed my student to make her remember all my words. I've been repeating and repeating over each session yet she still make the same old mistake. Plus, what makes me boil is the stupid question she posed when i asked her "any questions u want to ask or need me to explain again" and she reply "how come the question asked this type of question huh" can someone take a knife and just stab me to death.

I guess I'm way too angry, I didn't scream, neither did I shout. I keep it to myself. Perhaps thats the reason why I'm way too angry and blood pressure shoot up instantly. I nearly suffered a stroke ordeal. damn.

Anyway I had a good talk with kor. This somehow perked me up a lil'. U know, its been years since we last sat down and have a great conversation. We talked about his NS, his trip to Sydney, my trip to Hongkong and his Mass Comm degree, my Hotel Management degree, his driving lessons, the food in Aussie, the Paddington market, Darling Harbour, Bondi Beach, showed him my photos, well, almost anything under the sun. Mum would be very happy if she see this. Coz' she've always been scolding me for not talking to kor. Anyhow, i hope i'll get more chance to confide in him.

I wanna go Sydney after kor told me about his trip.

I'm going to bed now. A lil' tired. And i hope i can wake up for breakfast with mum and dad tomorrow morning.

Dajie leaving for Taiwan on Monday. Hope she'll have fun over there. Coz' I wanna tag along also.

Oh, I made Cheese meatball yesterday. I was good. Just a lil' salty thats all! Serious. Together with slice mango. Ok, I know its a weird combination. But its my creation. When I said its nice, you've gotta believe me! lolx.

Chinese? Is that Chinese?

posted by tristan @ 4/22/2005 11:20:00 PM

God! This is the 2nd blog for the night. Anyway, I just saw on the news. A good news for the younger generation who loathe Chinese Language. But a big NONO for me.

Students are now allowed to bring in dictionary / electronic dictionary for examination and.... its paper 2. Imagine how easy it is to score a full marks for the TIAN XIE HAN ZI section. While last time we used to carry the 2 holy bible (Ci Yu Shou Ce) and memorise the thousands of characters when we knew only 5 would appear in the paper. No matter how we abhor chinese language, we still gotta learnt. How freaking unfair it is to learn from the news that Electronic dictionary can be use in examination hall. MEI TIAN LI = No Justice!!!!

How are the students gonna learn chinese? Seriously I think its kinda brainless for MOE to decide on this kind of method to make chinese a more appealing subject, when we have been using this method to learn for the past decade. Life's gonna be way too easy for the younger generation to get through.

My application for relief teaching is still pending. Once approved, i'm gonna screw those kids. Okok, I'm joking!!! I'm not a hideous guy. I love kids. That's why I choose to teach. But no matter what, I still think it quite unfair and this methods will only decrement the standard of chinese language.

Topic today is "what if..."

What if you discover an anonymous sum of money the next time you check ur account balance? Say....

$2,000,000

the 15 I will....

1. Save 1 million for future use.

2. Give mom, dad and brother $100,000 each.

3. Seriously, I won't donate to charity.

4. The friends will benefit for a shopping trip with me. They can choose what they like. Maximum spending limit $500 each. I'll spend $2000 on the shopping trip then.

5. Use $200K for my Hotel Management studies in Switzerland. Make sure I've got the best room with the best view of Lake Geneva.

6. Bring my parents to Japan.

7. Bring a small group of friends to Australia/NZ. I wanna get a chance for a Hot Air Balloon ride.

8. Oh, I heard this from Melis. You pay $70k to be exempted from NS.

9. I'll buy a new HDB, renovate according with ZEN touch. best part.. And live alone. So i can get friends to party over the weekend. No more chalets then. Fwah~

10. I'll buy a house in Ireland. A lil' unrealistic that is. Perhaps Slyvinian family double storey bungalow would do some justice.

11. I'll fly to UK to catch a soccer match. That's something fresh and new.

12. I'll buy myself an Audi or Mitsubishi Colt

13. I'll start up a backpackers resort.... I've yet decide on the location. Say Pakistan? hahaha!

14. I'll learn piano, roller blading, wakeboarding, sky diving.

15. I'll save the remaining sum of money which i've allocated for expenses. But I doubt there's any left.

hmmmm....... Look at my topic again. WHAT IF.....

What I wanna do, Where I wanna go?

posted by tristan @ 4/21/2005 09:53:00 PM

Went for a Swiss Hotel Management School seminar today. Thank to en for accompanying me, it was quite fruitful. My idea of the seminar wasn't really the way I suppose it would be. Rather, its a small group of 5 seminar. Even en without any passion for hospitality was kinda affected after the talk. Gan Xie Ni~ hiak hiak hiak!

Its really an ideal place to study for a Bachelor in Hospitality Management. But 1 major issue is still finance. I guess getting this Bachelor Degree would cost be at least 60 to 80K for 3 years. And you know how much are they paying for any intern in Swiss? Its a minimum of 2.8K in Sing dollars. Mind you, its minimum. that's why student need not worry about expenses after the 1st 5 months. Moreover, paying S$32K per semester includes food and beverages, textbook, uniform and all. sounds exciting right. I'm definitely excited.... very indeed. The studying environment is really friendly. =)

I'm gonna do some further reading now.... Lets see how things goes.

tired and I yawn....

Backed!! I'm feelin extremely tired today and moody.

Went back to tpss again and this time round, finally got to eat our all time favourite "wanton mee". hehe. I know it may sound stupid to you, but its good and that's why we frequent.

Waited for Nes to be here while she had her lunch and we went head off to Orchard. All thanks to Cien and her bf's 21st Birthday present. We were quite relunctant actually. =( All your fault cien! haha. bleahx. =p

Saw a top from Zara but then decided not to waste a single cents today other than food. And I did it. Applause please.

Anyway, I've received a call from CMPB about my appeal for earlier enlistment.

The result is...

1) I'm still on the waiting list. If there's any changes, they'll inform me right away. *First come first serve basis

2) I can only successfully enlist earlier if I've a confirmed placement in U, which I don't have.

3) I can try to pass my NAPFA again, they will push it to October and I'll end on time for Aug 2007. Reason being passing your NAPFA will entitled you to an incentive of only 1 year 10 months of service.

I'm looking at SIM now, because SMU's Bachelor in Business course duration totally freaked me out. Its a 4 years degree programme. And SIM Bachelor for Science in Business is only a 2 year programme. Anyway, I doubt I can make it for SMU also. But still, I'm giving it a try next year.

And the pig is hungry again. Time for dinner.

There's alot of people there. All despo I suppose. Anyway, jas seems to be so familiar with that place, maybe his one of them who frequent? Right Jas?

Ok, tuition later. Update again soon.

Woke up at 11am this morning and received a message from my student's mum that tuition have to be shifted to 12noon. Was quite a mad rush. U know I always have the bad habit of taking my own sweet time and think nothing is as important unless its my first day of work.

Went for tuition. Been quite sometime since I last got angry. My student. Haix. I don't know what the hell is she thinking. Not paying attention and not concentrating. Horrible piece of composition. Arrgghhh..

Caught in the rain while I have the intention of going to my cousin's house as well as meeting esther up. Its been quite sometime since I last met up with her. =) Had lots to gossip, lots of catching up. Thanks pal for the gift from taiwan. She got for me a box of chocolate, a t-shirt, a bottle of QOO Yogurt drink which ain't avail in Singapore and BEST PART, a packet of edible condom chocolate. So cool~ Hee hee. While in return I bought for her a Guess make up pouch from Hongkong. Its real. Haha. You know why I must clarify?! Because people often think that these goods are bought from those night market. keke.
Congratulation!! Esther also got into JAL 2nd round interview as well as SIA interview which happens next Saturday. Envy!! Good job pal.

Then went home for dinner with mom and dad. Mom got me the blender. Hehe. For my fruity milk shake weight gaining drink. hehe! Thanks mom!

An hour after my dinner. Met up with Lian, en, Ben and nes for Supper at Blk 85. To my surprise, saw Janice with her boyfriend munching away too. Its a small world afterall.
Had the yummylicious BBQ Chix wings, Mince pork noodles and a bowl of glutinous rice balls in peanut soup.. slurp~~~~ And we head to a void deck to slack for an hour or so before heading home. Had fun fooling around. We played some LAME games by utilising the resources we can find under the void deck. Always had so much fun with these people.

Tomorrow? Kinda boring really. Don't feel like chilling out. Coz' sunday is family day. =)
Well, shall see then. Take care everyone! Nitex...

Enlistment letter is here. Ta-da!! And it sucks. 9th of Sep BMTC School 1. Hello. That's like freaking 4 months away. Was kinda pissed actually. And I'm gonna do something........

Went back to school to print my students examination papers. SA 1 coming. I SMILE while she's gonna cry. wahaha! Felt quite bad as there's only a lab opened for use and I've been hogging onto the printer for an hour. *blush*

Next!!
Then met up with Jas, Melis and Ariel for a Badminton game. Nice one. Thou Melis and I lost. We're proud to be losers alright! Sweat for like an hour before we start slacking away! Nice game. Congrats to Ariel for getting into SMU. Expected.

Too tired to go anywhere. Was feeling hungry, and craving for some Nasi Lemak. hehe! So I haven't had my dinner yet. Hmmm... If only I have a car, my friends gonna benefit. Can drive them out for a supper. hehe!

Going to meet up with Esther tomorrow. She just came back from Taiwan. Woo. this lady has been invited for SIA interview and she got into the 2nd round of JAL interview. Thumbs up.

Nadia Turner is OUT!

posted by tristan @ 4/14/2005 11:57:00 PM

Yup, Nadia Turner is out from the competition. Kinda expected it, still SHE RAWKS!! =(

Went back to TPSS for lunch, but to our dismay, aunty had closed for the day. So freaking early. Hummpff. Then have to settle down at foodcourt instead. Anyway, on our way back to school, we saw this poor little kitten. It must have been knocked down by a car. Its eyes and some organ from its body were popping out. Kinda gross but felt quite bad. And we end up using this Cat to crack silly jokes. Because someone must have shifted its body to the pavement, and since its under the hot sun, i thought of buying salt to preserve its body. Just like how the make preserve salted vegetables. This is salted cat aka "KIAM NIAO". cruel us. we're creating quite a sin huh. Have to go to the church "don't know what booth" to start chanting for forgiveness.

Feelin' kinda down. Coz' majority of my poly friends had already received their enlistment letter except me. Poor me. Have to sit aside and quietly wait, wait and wait. Sucks! I don't want to be enlisted for the September batch, because this means I would have to search for a job, have to wait again. Besides, you know when they've POP, i've just merely started BMT. And what if 2 years later I have a strong urge to get into U and their semester starts in Aug?? Does this means I have to freaking wait for another 11 months just to start a new semester?? Wasting my time away.

Boring? Eversince I've came back from Hongkong. Life's been pretty boring. Every other single day, besides eating, eating and eating, waiting for tuition to come, its like life's so aimless. =(
How I wish to pack my bags and leave again? This time how about a 2 months backpacking trip around Europe?? Stick to this dream, someday I'll fulfil it!

Let's fly away......

Cotton wool clouds. Can I eat them?

Yes, am flying alone on JetstarAsia. Experience on Budget Airline? well, for me, I am quite particular about comfy level especially leg room. With my height, its really uncomfortable. Luckily I was taking the window seat and there's no one sitting beside me, thus, able to slant 45degrees and avoid leg cramps. If you're a budget traveller, well, service and quality is rated average. But after this flight to and fro, I would spend extra cash on better airlines and won't consider flying budget airline again.

Once I've reached HKIA, I was a little worried about all the trouble of finding my way to the Airport Express train. Well, basically its just a few steps away and directly connected with the terminal. For HKD $300, you can enjoy 2 round trip Airport Express Train as well as unlimited MTR service for 3 consecutive days. Sorry. I didn't take any pictures for both my trip to and fro. I was exhausted.

Met up with Melis and all. Here's the bustling city with array with lights. These signboards really give me a real HONGKONG feel.

Next day, took to the MTR to Lantau Island to the Great Buddha. Honestly, if given a choice, I had prefer to travel in HongKong MTR than Singapore's MRT. Firstly its alot safer. And platform on higher ground are secured with these glass doors and panels as well.
+PLUS+ The signboard on the train have arrows and lights telling you where the trains is heading to and which is the next stop. Unlike Singapore, where they merely announce, if you missed it, you're dead.

With the Great Buddha. There's a flight of stairs we have to climb before reaching the top. I've started training for IPPT in Hong Kong.

Spent almost a day at the Ocean Park on day 3. It has a range of rides, however, getting from place to place can be a tedious task. WHY?? Its built on a mountain, the route is enough to kill. We went to the Underwater World, Shark Aquariam, took some rides, see PANDAs first time in my life, watch the brillant and intelligent Dolphin performance, buy souvenirs.......... uncountable.....

We took the Asia's oldest tram ride to the top of Victoria Peak. The ride was so steep that you'll be almost locked in your seat throughout the journey.
